Drift Creek Farm and The Oregon Country Fair

Established in approx 1975, Drift Creek Farm was and still is a family and close knit group of friends.
Our booth (located at #662 shady lane ) at that time, wasn't much more than a few drapes and blankets. In about 1981, Joni (Booth Rep) moved up between Silverton and Sublimity, Oregon to caretake 197 acres of land on  Drift Creek Road and so was born our name.
In 1975 the original members  were Joni and Gene, and Joni's son Kris, at the time their craft was jewelry and smoking apparatus.
In 1978 Greg (Joni's other son) joined the crew with reverse tyedye which later became multi- colored dye
In the next couple years a permanent structure was established, a small "crew" developed.
Smoking apparatus and jewelry were dropped from our inventory
about this time we started production of the popular pocket frisbees, now made of hemp cloth, they were originally of satin.
During the next few years Drift Creek Farm still sold tyedye and Joni made handmade clothing, purses , hats and other sewn items..plus a small amount of other other hand crafted items(lavender wands, etc...) . At this time the diversity of the fair was at its height, we always tryed to have something new every year at the fair each year, as did a lot of other crafters. This was before crafts were juried by the craft committee to assure handmade goods of the utmost quality .
Jim became a permanent member of our booth , about 1980-81
In 1982 our products were grandfathered. in other words that year we were forced to make the same thing every year from then on.**
       In 1985 Hallie was born
About 1986-7 Pure Olive Oil Soap was juried in and added to our products
      Summer was born in 1997
Both Hallie and Summer have been at the fair every year of thier lives.

**We believed, and still do, that the fair was self limiting. Those items that sold well , returned and sold again.
those that didn't and weren't of the best quality , didn't sell well and as such , didn't return
Just as the fair public population limited itself. If it was very crowded one year, not as many people  came the next.
