Notes for Carroll Layton Taylor
Left Galax, Virginia with family in a 46 Ford Pickup with a homemade wooden Trailer when he was 7 or 8. His dad, who was a farmer and lumber worker decided to go back to the west where he liked the living. Picked cotton in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. Made it to Oregon, just north of Kaiser. Picked Beans in Stayton. Went to Michigan and Florida to pick fruit for money, then back to Oregon and Picked Fruit. Carroll lived in West Stayton on McClellan Lane. He met Lana, who lived on 7th street in Albany, with Junior at the North Santiam Store by bumping her, lightly, with his 1955 ford. Later Lana hit a wooden bridge while she was driving the Ford and knocked the side of the bridge into the water. It was a bridge between Jefferson and Marion off a gravel road. Sitting on a Bean bucket with Lana's girlfriend, Margaret in 1960. Witnessed 3 indians in Arizona, dressed in Indian clothing. Also, witnessed a couple Indians with their horses, just looking at them.
