Configure E-Mail Programs
Do It Yourself (D.I.Y.)

Configure Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Outlook Email

  1. From the Start button, select Settings, then Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, select Mail (or in some cases Mail & Fax). NOTE: If this icon does not exist, you will need to click on Add/Remove Programs, and Add Microsoft Exchange. You will be prompted for your Windows 95 CD. (MS Exchange is not included with Windows 98)
  3. Click on Show Profiles.
  4. Click on Add.
  5. Uncheck everything except Internet Mail. Click NEXT.
  6. Type you Name. Click NEXT.
  7. Select Modem. Click NEXT.
  8. Select Willamette Valley Internet. Click NEXT
  9. Enter: gateway.wvi.com Click NEXT.
  10. Click Automatic. Click NEXT.
  11. Enter your email address and your full name. Click NEXT.
  12. Mailbox name is the first part of your email address. (Everything before "@wvi.com"). Password is your WVI password. Click NEXT.
  13. Click NEXT.
  14. Click NEXT.
  15. Click NEXT.
  16. Click FINISH.

Configure Netscape Navigator Email

  1. From the Options menu, select Mail and News Preferences.
  2. Click on the Servers tab at the top of the window.
  3. The first two questions are SMTP and POP3 mail server. For both of these, type: gateway.wvi.com it is important that there are no spaces.
  4. For POP3 Username, type you WVI username. (i.e. if your email address is ymiller@wvi.com, your POP3 Username would be: ymiller).
  5. Click on the Identity tab at the top of the window.
  6. Enter your real name and email address.
  7. Return (or in some cases, Reply To) Address is the same as your email address.
  8. Organization is optional.
  9. Click OK, and your done.

Configure Netscape Communicator Email

  1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
  2. In the Categories window on the left, click on the + to expand the Mail & Groups category.
  3. Select Identity and fill in the boxes in the window on the right for:
    • Name This is your name as you wish it to appear.
    • Address This is your e-mail address. e.g. username@wvi.com
    • Reply To... This is your e-mail address, again. e.g. username@wvi.com
  4. Select Mail Server and fill in the boxes in the window on the right for:
    • Mail Server User Name This is the first part of your e-mail address. If your e-mail address is username@wvi.com, then put username in the box.
    • Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server This is gateway.wvi.com
    • Incoming Mail Server This is also gateway.wvi.com
    • Below make sure you select POP3... mail server type.
  5. Click OK, and your done.

Configure Eudora Lite Email

  1. From the Tools menu, select Options.
  2. A window will appear with a list of categories on the left. Click on the very top category: Getting Started.
  3. For POP account, enter USERNAME@gateway.wvi.com where USERNAME is the first part of your email address. NOTE: This is NOT you email address. Our mail server is gateway.wvi.com, so this setting tells Eudora who you are on our mail server.
  4. Real name is just that… Your name.
  5. Click on the Personal Settings category.
  6. Return (or in some cases, Reply To) Address is the same as your email address.
  7. Click on the Hosts category.
  8. Mail Server (or SMTP Server) enter: gateway.wvi.com it is important that there are no spaces.
  9. Click OK, and your done.
