Route - round trip from Como, Italy
Welcome to the trip report of my 2001 bicycle tour.
I first traveled to Europe in 1997 and toured Bavaria by automobile.
I told my wife that the Alps were beautiful and the ambiance great, but what
was needed to fully enjoy the area was a bicycle. A bicycle serves as transportation,
recreation and exercise, and you get a better feel of the land and people.
This trip began in
Northern Italy, into Austria to Salzburg, along the border into Germany crossing
several times, Innsbruck and
Southeastern Switzerland back to Como, Italy.
I used the internet for much of my trip research and for booking airline tickets and
initial hotel reservations. Reading trip reports inspired
and transported me vicariously to the mountains and provided much enjoyment.
I hope this report provides enjoyment, some resource information, and the impetus
for some to do their own trips.
This was a credit card tour where you carry your gear from inn to inn (no camping or cooking).
I was to ride the first two days alone and meet up with my friend Scott in Trento.
Scott would take the train from Munich to Trento after completing a cycling tour in Crete.
