Iselsberg-Bruck

View back down toward Lienz from Iselberg.

We descended down to Winklern and found an ATM. Stocked with schillings; Scott set off to look for a bike shop that the tourism office said existed in town. He wanted his rear wheel trued. I rode over to Mocca & Co. for a mocha and break.

Scott was only able to find a gas station. The attendant was a bicyclist and agreed to try to true the wheel unaided by a truing stand. We headed along the valley gradually climbing for several miles. Just before Heiligenblut the climbing picked up. Looking back, we enjoyed the waterfall across the valley. It was a long climb up to Hochtor and the crest of the road through the Gross Glockner. A steady drizzle started on the climb and helped keep me from overheating.

Hochtor

Hochtor summit

We stopped at the rest room at Hochtor and dressed in multiple layers fearing a cold and wet descent.
After crossing the tunnel we found sunlight and dry roads. It was only wet on the south side of the mountain.

The brief descent down the hump of the camel was followed by a climb up to the other summit.
A glacier scene was in between the humps and surrounding area.

Fuschertoerl

Fuschertoerl. I'm dressed in most of the biking clothes that I carried.

The descent was fast and twisty. We both stopped to cool our wheels and brakes.

We made good time to Bruck since it was almost all downhill. In Bruck we stayed at the Hotel Lukashansl, a 600-year-old hotel that had been in the same family for the last 400 years. We enjoyed a delicious dinner with wine at the hotel, and then walked around town exploring. We came upon a community band playing in the plaza. A crowd was gathered round and enjoyed the music.
When we awoke the next morning, the front had moved in and a steady rain was falling. I told Scott I wouldn't mind riding the train to Salzburg (our next destination) since it would be such a wet day.  We went walking to find the train station for information. I didn't have a rain hat, and after a while turned back. Scott returned with 2 train tickets. We loaded up and rode to the station. It was a nice ride of about 50 minutes to Salzburg.
Leaving the Salzburg train station, we made our way to the Hotel Amadeus.
