Over the years it has been my honor and privilege to meet, make friends with, learn from and teach people with the common interest of martial arts.
Though I am by far not one of the best, each person I've been able to work with has made me a little better than before. I hope in turn each person I've had the privilege to teach has become a little better. I have enormous admiration for the rare individuals I've met who have been able to turn their love of the martial arts into a full time successful occupation.
My first teacher then Sifu, now Grandmaster Doc Fai Wong has been a friend for a long time. Since 1972. He started teaching in the garage of the house he still lives in and has expanded to over 100 schools around the world. He and his family are among the most open and welcoming people I've known.
I immigrated to Australia in 1974 where, while refereeing a karate sparring tournament in Cairns, Queensland; I met my second teacher Ian Garbett. He had heard of me and came to the tournament where we met. We struck up a great friendship and he taught me his system of Yi Chuan Fa.
A few years later I met Eric Fitzgerald who taught me the Chen Man Ching version of tai chi and single push hands. We have reconnected via internet after many years of seperation and correspond frequently. He's now in Canberra, Australia still teaching and has generated several schools.
I returned to the U.S. in 1986 and through the internet reconnected with Grandmaster Wong, then I traveled to San Francisco numerous times for his guidance and expertise. He is an excellent teacher, one of the best. Since then I've learned much and met many more people. Here are some of them, teachers, colleagues and students. Enjoy!
