ABOUT TAI CHI

Tai Chi has been described as many many things; a low impact exercise, moving meditation, a martial art, a benefit to health for cardiovasular and pulminary systems. In fact it is all of this and more.

It is not an Eastern religion. Too many times I've heard it referred to as such and therefore rejected by the uninformed. It is not a political force such as the Falun Gong which is using Tai Chi as a vehicle to promote a political agenda.

Tai Chi is virtually sweeping the Western/European countries as the health benefits are becoming known. Western medicine can no longer deny the benefits it brings to everyone who practices.

My personal experiences with accelerated healing, stronger immune system, greatly increased pulminary capacity, excellent balance, calmer attitude and increased martial skills has made me a committed advocate. I am fortunate to have an excellent teacher to guide me through the correct way.

The Tai Chi Chuan forms are done very, very slowly. To an outside observer it looks graceful but not very dynamic, one could not imagine it as having martial art origins or applications. On the inside of the practitioner there is a tremendous amount going on. Each breath is coordinated, synchronised with every movement. Every part of the body is becoming connected and integrated with the mind. The mind is becoming more focused and calmer. The mind is becoming more tuned to the body so there's no more seperation. Energy starts to flow through the body and with practice of the form the mind learns to recognise and direct that energy to where it's needed. One can say it is getting to know yourself.
