• Hook: Steelhead/Salmon Size 2-6
• Thread: Black, 6/0
• Tag: Silver Tinsel
• Body: Orange Floss
• Wing: Purple Marabou in 4 sections beginning about 1/3 way back from hook eye.
• Collar: Purple Saddle Hackle, covered by Orange dyed Guinea
• Cheeks: Jungle Cock (optional)

Use Marabou tail material for wing, move forward and rotate each segment.

HISTORY

John Shewey is a avid fisherman, fly tier, author of numerous fly fishing and fly tying books and now editor of Northwest Fly Fishing Magazine. The Spawning Purple is a go-to fly on the Santiam River System for Steelhead. A "winter" variation has 1/2 pink and 1/2 purple marabou wings. The "Flame" variation has a rear section of yellow, then orange marabou, then purple marabou.
