| Other Hairwing Patterns Top: Improved Governor. Floss rear body and herl front. Left: Peacock Skunk. This is a merger of patterns - The Skunk and the Spade. I used the Alec Jackson method of making a "rope" of tinsel and peacock herls spun together to build the body. Right: Brad's Brat. Two-Tone Dubbed body. |

Final Thoughts: Steelhead Hairwing flies are very simple to tie. If you master this fly, there are 1,000's of similar patterns to build using the same techniques. The differences are color, body materials and tail and wing materials, but the basic design is extrememly similar. The use of Jungle Cock shoulders is optional on most Steelhead Hairwing patterns, but I prefer the looks of the fly with them added. Tight Lines, Dave |
