A record 193 runners and walkers participated in
the 25th annual Old-Time
4th of July Runs and Walk in Stayton on Friday.
Twenty-three cities and four states were represented by
participants ranging in age from three to 82.
In the mens 10K, Mike Tyler, 41, of Salem
outpaced David Rannabarger, 19, of Stayton by 26 seconds to win in
35:55. In the womens
division, Natalie Hemphill, 19, of Salem dominated the field with a
39:21 finish, over two minutes ahead of runner-up Tonya Lutz of Salem.
The 3K run was taken by Thom Nash, 43, of Salem
in 10:13. Susan Brainard,
46, of Salem logged a solid win in the womens race with a 12:52.
Sponsored by the Stayton Road Runners Club,
proceeds of the events went to help benefit the National Kidney
Foundation. The foundation is fighting to put an end to kidney
diseases diseases which affect 1 in 9 Americans.
