A record 193 runners and walkers participated in the 25^th annual Old-Time 4^th of July Runs and Walk in Stayton on Friday.  Twenty-three cities and four states were represented by participants ranging in age from three to 82.  

In the men’s 10K, Mike Tyler, 41, of Salem outpaced David Rannabarger, 19, of Stayton by 26 seconds to win in 35:55.  In the women’s division, Natalie Hemphill, 19, of Salem dominated the field with a 39:21 finish, over two minutes ahead of runner-up Tonya Lutz of Salem.  

The 3K run was taken by Thom Nash, 43, of Salem in 10:13.  Susan Brainard, 46, of Salem logged a solid win in the women’s race with a 12:52.  

Sponsored by the Stayton Road Runners Club, proceeds of the events went to help benefit the National Kidney Foundation. The foundation is fighting to put an end to kidney diseases – diseases which affect 1 in 9 Americans.
