24, 2009. He
was born to William and Mary Basl of Coon Hollow in Stayton.
He was the 8th of eight children.
He was given the nickname “Daniel Boone” as a boy by
his family because of his great love for hunting.
Later it was shortened to “Boone”.
At the age of 12 he put together his “puddlejumper”.
It could almost drive up a vertical hill. Coon
Hollow’s hills were no match for Dad and his ‘puddlejumper’.
High School he served four years, 1952 - 1956 in the Navy aboard
the U.S.S. Princeton CVS-37 as a radar man receiving the good
conduct award and the China Service medal.
On May 3, 1958, he married his beloved Jeanette Ann
Miller of Salem, OR. They
loved, laughed and grew spiritually together for 51 glorious
years. They enjoyed
camping, fishing, cards and life.
They raised 3 children, Guy, Tina, and Lynn.
Boone worked approximately 28 years for North Santiam
Plywood in Mill City before retiring.
