Lawrence 'Boone' Jacob Basl
September 27, 1932 - August 24, 2009

Lawrence, 76, was taken home by our Lord in the early morning of August  24, 2009.  He was born to William and Mary Basl of Coon Hollow in Stayton.  He was the 8th of eight children.  He was given the nickname “Daniel Boone” as a boy by his family because of his great love for hunting.  Later it was shortened to “Boone”.  At the age of 12 he put together his “puddlejumper”.  It could almost drive up a vertical hill.  Coon Hollow’s hills were no match for Dad and his ‘puddlejumper’.

After High School he served four years, 1952 - 1956 in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Princeton CVS-37 as a radar man receiving the good conduct award and the China Service medal.  On May 3, 1958, he married his beloved Jeanette Ann Miller of Salem, OR.  They loved, laughed and grew spiritually together for 51 glorious years.  They enjoyed camping, fishing, cards and life.  They raised 3 children, Guy, Tina, and Lynn.   Boone worked approximately 28 years for North Santiam Plywood in Mill City before retiring.

He was preceded in death by his brothers; Bill “Snook” Basl, Albert Basl, Jim Basl, and Thomas Basl, Sister; Helen Johnson.  Lawrence is survived by his wife; Jeanette, son; Guy Basl of Mena, Arkansas, daughters; Tina Connally of Sublimity, OR and Melinda Little of Salem, OR,  Sister; Lorene Heavirland of Bend, OR,  brother; Leo Basl of Mill City, OR,  Grandchildren; Nicole Lindemann of Sublimity, OR,  Charity Hall of Florence, Kentucky, Jacob Lindemann of Albany, OR and two Great Grandchildren, Scott and Addison Hall of Florence Kentucky.

Lawrence was a generous man to friends and strangers.  If he could help you he would.  “Dad, you are and will always be the “Chief.”
