Sublimity – Maxine,
84, died Monday in Keizer. She was born in Salem to Julian and
Ann DeJardin. Maxine was the second of three children. She grew
up in the Hopmere area, moving to Stayton when she was 16.
Maxine graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Salem in 1942. She
was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Stayton
and the Altar Society. Maxine worked for many years on the
Marion County Election Board. She enjoyed reading, gardening,
her grandchildren and all her family, and visiting with friends
over coffee.
Maxine married Shirley
C. Bates on February 8, 1947. They were married 40 years before
his death in 1987. She is survived by her sister Elaine
Highberger of Stayton; her four children: Terry Bates (Dori
Denhem) of Salem; Sue Schumacher (David) of Sublimity; Joani
Simonton (Dan) of Beaverton; Jill Dunlap (Tom) of Salem; eight
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one niece and two
nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband,
brother Don and one grandson.
Recitation of Rosary
will be held at 11:30 AM, followed by Memorial Mass at 12:00 on
Friday, October 16, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic
Church in Stayton. Private interment in St. Mary Cemetery in
Stayton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions
be made to Willamette Valley Hospice. The family would like to
say a special Thank You to A wing at Avamere Court in Keizer.
