"Jim" M. Bender
January 7, 1952 - March 22, 2009
Jim was born on January 7, 1952 in Salem, Oregon to
Stanley & Bernadine (Stuckart) Bender. He passed away at his
home in Madras on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the age of 57
Jim has went onto his next great adventure in Heaven. Jim's last
few months were spent in spiritual reflection and with great joy
knowing he was going to die in a few months. His courage and
catholic faith made his suffering bearable. He expressed his
sadness in leaving so many family members and friends behind.
Jim moved to Central Oregon from Stayton, Oregon in 1971. He
attended COCC with a minor in forestry and range management. Jim
loved the outdoors whether it be fly fishing, hunting, trapping,
or horseback riding on the marginal grasslands. Jim became
interested in saddlemaking and leatherwork so he taught himself
the hobby which he enjoyed doing for over 30 years. He raised a
son, Chad, and a daughter, Samantha and then in 1990 he married
Patti (Holland) Bender. He always said that she was the only
thing he did right. Jim was a gentle man that had a way with
words which sent him on another adventure, cowboy poetry writing
and reciting all over Oregon and other states. Jim enjoyed the
buckaroo way of life and wished he had been born in the early
west days. Jim spent a lot of time reading and sharing his
innermost thoughts with his best friends.
Jim was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church,
Catholic Order of Foresters and the NRA. Jim graduated from
Regis High School in Stayton, OR in 1970.
