Eugene “Gene” Davenport

May 6, 1922 - June 25,  2009


Eugene “Gene” Davenport died at home in Mill City, Oregon on June 25, 2009 from Cancer with family beside him. He was born in Dustin, Oklahoma on may 6, 1922. 


Gene came to Oregon in 1942 and was drafted into the army in 1943, going to Fort Lewis Washington then  transferred to Camp Mac Call, North Carolina, for training as a paratrooper. He had additional training at Camp Polk, Louisiana, before sailing from San Francisco, California for New Guinea. The unit became the 11 Airborne. The 11 Airborne helped liberate the Philippine Islands in 1944, then went to Japan in 1945. Gene had many combat jumps. He was discharged from the Army January 1946 at Fort Lewis, Washington as Sergeant.


Gene married Doris Tudor in Bristow Oklahoma in 1943. They had Three children, Carolyn Meuser, deceased, Lindsey of Cove, Oregon, and Dale of Mill City, Oregon. Surviving is wife, Doris and Sister Lucille Baley of Springfield, Oregon.


A Memorial Service will be held at the United Methodist Church, in Stayton, Oregon on July 3, 2009 at 11 a.m.  Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services.  Online condolences can be made at
