- Verna Joyce Hawkins passed away on Sunday, January 4, at her
Jefferson home, where she was lovingly cared for by her family
and friends during her final stage of cancer. Verna was

1956, the Trenchuk family moved to Calgary, Alberta where Verna
became employed as secretary at the international
Engineering firm of Rule, Wynn and Rule. Being a tireless worker

After a whirl-wind courtship of three months, Verna married
Haskell Hawkins, a handsome minister from the U.S. on January

1967, the young couple moved to Jefferson where Haskell

started his construction business - Triple H Construction.
Verna worked side by side with Haskell, serving as secretary
for the church and for their construction business, but her
most important job was in the home.

Verna's children were grown, she served as Chair of the Women's
Ministry committee at the Marion Church of God (Seventh Day)
where she worked tirelessly to meet the needs of her
congregation. People often commented on how fast she could do
things calling her a “house on fire”. God found himself a
useful and willing servant in Verna - a gift to us all.
