Ervin H. Lyons 
June 29, 1921 – April 5, 2009

 

Aumsville – Ervin (Shorty), 87, died Sunday in Shaw at his beloved care home. He was born in Renville County, North Dakota. Ervin spent his youth in Mt. Vernon, WA. He learned to drive everything from tractors to log trucks. Later he became a linotype operator and worked at several newspapers on the west coast. He then built and ran a large alfalfa farm in George, WA. After retiring from the farm, he moved to Aumsville where he worked as a supervisor for Tom Doran Construction until he was 80 years old. 

Ervin loved talking with people and never met a stranger, he loved to work, and he loved kids. He was very loving to his wife, whom he cared for in her last years. Ervin served in the US Army during World War II. His wife Elsie preceded him in death in 1989.

Ervin is survived by his dog: Oscar; Children: Patrick, Richard, Bill and Benjamin Cline, Hazel Andrews, Dolly Strausbaugh, Donna Goodfell, Harold and Frances Lyons, Sharon Woodward, and Linda, Tom, Nona and Ida Doran. 25 – grandchildren and 34 – Great-grandchildren. His daughter Dora preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Lone Oak Cemetery in Stayton. Contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Serving the family North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
