Stayton – Ruth, 88,
died Tuesday in Salem. She was born in Detroit, Michigan.
Growing up on a farm near Whittemore, Michigan, her parents had
immigrated from Hungary in the early 1900’s. Bringing 3
babies, they birthed 3 more in the states, 3 were deceased in
Married at the age of
seventeen to Henry E. Richardson, deceased 2001, they celebrated
with a chicken dinner, a spice-nut-cake, prepared by Bessie
Richardson, Henry’s Mother, and a movie.
At age forty nine they
moved to Rochester, NY where there was work. In 1966 a move to
California came due to the harsh previous winter on Henry’s
health. In Fresno, CA., where they settled, Ruth worked as a
supervisor in accounting for the Fresno Housing Authority. They
moved to Oregon in 1977 and resided in Stayton since 1979.
Ruth has been an
advocate for life-long learning, skilled at understanding
numbers, organization, maps and languages, she was an avid
reader, liked to sew and cook, was interested in words and
Having a natural sense
of music, she “played by ear” the harmonica, accordion,
guitar, piano/organ and loved to sing.
She was a devout
Christian belonging to the United Methodist Church most of her
life. She cared deeply about people, animals and the world
conditions – God’s creation was her joy. Ruth
is survived by sister: Ann Centola of Rochester, NY; four
children: Helen Dennis of Sun Valley, NV, James
Richardson of Holly, NY, Lawrence Richardson of Albion, NY, and
Arlene Williamson of Hayward, CA; 14 –Grandchildren; 24 -
Great-grandchildren; 7 – great-great-grandchildren and
numerous nieces and nephews.

Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 4:00 PM at Lone Oak Cemetery in
Stayton. Light refreshments following at Stayton United
