Mill City – Leo Basl,
passed away on Saturday, November 6, hours before his 83rd
birthday in Stayton. He was born the fourth of eight children to
William and Mary (Toepfer) Basl of Coon Hollow, Sublimity. Leo was
married to Laura L. Schmid on January 13, 1949, they had 7
children together and divorced in 1972. He then married Myrtle M.
Hamilton-Schmid on June 14, 1989 and they divorced in May 2010.
Leo worked in construction several years helping build the Detroit
and The Dalles dams. He then worked in the lumber mill industry
for 30 years, retiring from Frank Lumber Company in Mill City.
Leo enjoyed gardening,
rockhounding, playing cards, hunting, fishing and his family and
grandchildren. He was an active member of St. Catherine’s Church
in Mill City and also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Leo was preceded in
death by his son Walter, his parents, brothers: William, Albert,
James, Thomas, Lawrence and sister: Helen Johnston. He is survived
by Sons: L. Steven and Gregory of Stayton; Daughters: Doris
Weitman and Leslie (Lyle) Kirsch of Stayton, Tracie (Wayne)
Reynolds of Sublimity and Marlice (Dan) Fisher of Salem; Sister:
Lorene (Paul) Heavirland of Bend; 14 – Grandchildren and 18
Rosary will be Thursday,
November, 11, 2010 at 7:30 pm and Mass of Christian Burial will be
Friday, November 12, 2010 at 1:00 pm both at St. Boniface Church
in Sublimity. Interment in St. Boniface Cemetery, Sublimity.
