STAYTON - Florence (Squeak) Beitel, 95, died
Sunday, February 14, in Stayton. Florence was born in Humphrey,
Neb. to Alois and Cecilia Beitel and came to Oregon in 1915 when
he was 1 year old. He grew up on their Coon Hollow Road farm in
Stayton and attended St. Boniface grade and high schools. He was a
World War II army veteran and served in the Aleutian Islands
during the war. On November 8, 1945,
he married Virginia Cremer and they raised their family on a farm
on Fern Ridge Road, Stayton.
Florence was a member of the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church in Stayton, the Knights of Columbus for
48 years and the National Rifle Association. Squeak loved hunting,
fishing, playing pinochle and visiting with friends and family.
Squeak is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia; his brother,
Tony of Stayton; sons, Richard (Fran) of Del Rio Texas, Ted of
Memphis, Tenn.; daughters, Rosemary McBrayer of Clatskanie, and
Diane Duda (Jim) of Salem; 6 grandchildren and 7
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, John
and August Beitel, both of Stayton; and sisters, Marie Lulay of
Sublimity, Angela and Hedwig Beitel of Neb., Gertrude and Rose
Beitel of Sublimity, Sister Agnes Beitel of St. Mary's, Beaverton,
and Betty Silbernagel of Stayton.
Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday,
February 18 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Stayton. A
funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., Friday, February 19
at the church. Contributions may be made to St. Mary's or Regis
