SALEM &
TURNER - Born to Lulu and Steven Gregg on February 20, 1913, in
International Falls, Minnesota; slipped into the arms of Jesus on
January 24, 2010. Praise God! Mom was the fourth of six children.
Grandpa was the pastor of the Baptist Church in Little Fork,
Minnesota. Mom had a wonderful childhood. They were poor, but so
was everyone else, and no one knew it! She moved to Portland,
Oregon at the age of 19, when Grandma and Grandpa moved there.
Grandpa was the pastor of University Park Baptist Church in North
Portland, and there Mom met Darrel King, an usher at the church.
They were married on September 13, 1937, using the flowers from a
wedding the night before.
Mom and Dad
were married forty years and three months before Dad slipped over
to his heavenly home, and Mom continued on. They were the proud
parents of Lois, David and Carol and worshiped the Lord at Evangel
Baptist Church in Portland. Mom moved to Salem Towne when Dad
passed away, to be near David (Marie), and Carol (Jeff) and
families. She had seven grandchildren, Greg, Lisa, Todd, Michelle,
Tammy, Jeffrey, and David. She now has 12 great-grandchildren, and
was so proud of all! She was a member of First Baptist Church of
Salem, where David was pastor. When he moved on to Minnesota, she
continued being involved as long as possible. Mom lived at Turner
Retirement Homes, a small community within a community, for the
past 10 years, and has been so loved and cared for. She often
stated, "It feels like I have come home!" Mom was a
saint in every sense of the word, and has now achieved the lofty
goal we are all striving for. A wonderful role model for all, and
we are proud to be her children!
