Gladys was born into a
farming family on the prairies in Bowbells, North Dakota. She
was the youngest of five sisters and had one younger brother,
the children of Hans and Ida Anderson. She
moved to Eugene Oregon as a young women on her own. She married
Harold McAlister and began their life together in Astoria
Oregon. When their children were young they moved to a country
home in Svenson, Oregon after ten
years the family moved to Stayton in 1963. They were married
fifty years.
Gladys enjoyed
spending time with her family and as an excellent cook
orchestrated many large family gatherings.
Another love of hers was gardening and she spent many happy
years tending her lovely yard and garden. Throughout
her life she spent many years as an excellent house keeper. She
always valued being able to help the many families she worked
for. They were very special to her and she had many fond
memories of all of them.
Gladys is survived by
sons, Jack McAlister and Harold McAlister and two daughters Ida
Fay Curtis and Adelia Hofeld. She
has seven wonderful grandchildren and sixteen great
grandchildren with one more to arrive in July.
At her request no
public services will be held. A private family service is being
