Stayton – Al, 87, died
Sunday in Sublimity. He was born in Greeley, Colorado. Al was
raised in Missouri and lived most of his adult life in California.
He moved to Lincoln City in 1982 and to Stayton in 1990. Al served
in the US Navy during WWII as a radioman. After the war, he worked
in sawmills, drove truck for Burgermeister Beer Co., as an
insurance agent, and then for 20 years as an engineer at Kaiser
Engineers before his retirement.
Al was a member of St.
Boniface Catholic Church, the B.P.O.E. and a 4th degree Knight in
the Knights of Columbus St. Anthony Council. He enjoyed bowling,
fishing, woodworking, gardening, coin collecting, repairing
things, and making things for his children, grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and neighbor kids.
Al married Garnett M.
O’Sullivan on June 7, 1945 in Nevada City, CA. He is survived by
his wife; Garnett of Stayton; Sons: Patrick (Valerie) Self of
Aumsville, Michael (Sue) Self of Rocklin, CA., and Kerry Self of
Silverton; Daughters: Colleen ( Mike) Linkof
and Erin Souter both of Bend; Sisters: Lucy Sullivan of
Slater, MO., and Merle Woolston of Brunswick, MO.; 15 –
grandchildren and 17 – Great-grandchildren. Al was preceded in
death by a son, Timothy, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.
Recitation of Rosary
will be Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Mass of
Christian Burial at 11:00 AM both at St. Boniface Catholic Church
in Sublimity. Interment will be in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery
in Sublimity. Contributions may be made to the church or the Fr.
Taaffe Foundation. Serving the family North
