AUMSVILLE Ė W. Lane
Witt passed away at his home in Aumsville on Wednesday, September
22, 2010. Lane was born June 28, 1941,
in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of Walter Lane Witt and
Florence Marie (Dickerman) Witt.
He was Valedictorian of the Class of 1959 at Dwight David
Eisenhower High School of Blue Island, Illinois, then went on to
earn a Bachelorís Degree in mathematics from the University of
Illinois and a Masterís of Business Administration from Carnegie
Lane worked for Celanese
Corporation in New York City and Los Angeles before taking an
ownership interest in National Plastics Company of Pasadena,
California, in 1972. He
worked as Vice President of National Plastics until 1979, when he
and his family embarked on a year-long trip that took them through
much of the United States, visiting Christian communities.
In 1980, Lane moved to
Aumsville. He founded
Micro Computers for Business in Stayton and was, for many years,
an active member of the Stayton Rotary Club and the Stayton-area
chapter of Full Gospel Businessmenís Fellowship.
He was also a Computer Science instructor at Chemeketa
Community College. For the past 17
years, Lane worked for Cascade Employers Association in Salem,
ultimately serving as Director of Information Services.
Lane cherished the many friends he made during his years at
Cascade, and truly regarded his years there as a blessing.
His greatest joy was his
48 loving years of marriage with Marsha Karen (Berg) Witt.
Marsha was his high school sweetheart, and they were
married in 1962 in Blue Island.
Lane and Marsha were best friends and, above all, shared a
love of God and a devotion to Christian service.
Lane was a godly man, filled
with wisdom, love and integrity. He was active in Salemís Seed of Faith Ministries, serving
as a Deacon, Treasurer, Board Member, and choir member.
Lane is survived by his
wife Marsha; his children Lane (Jennifer), Michelle Slate (Terry)
and Kevin (Martha); his nine grandchildren; and his cousin Raye
Ellen Beaty. In
recent years, he took special pleasure in supporting the
activities of his grandchildren Ė delighting in their learning,
their sports events, and their many additional extra-curricular
The family is very
grateful for the support of Signature Hospice, which allowed Lane
to be at home when he passed.
A service will be held
at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Bethel Baptist Church,
645 Cleveland Street, Aumsville.
A viewing will precede the service, 10:30 to 11 a.m., at
Bethel Baptist Church. Interment in Aumsville Cemetery, Aumsville.
