W. Lane Witt
June 28, 1941-September 22, 2010

AUMSVILLE Ė W. Lane Witt passed away at his home in Aumsville on Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Lane was born June 28, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of Walter Lane Witt and Florence Marie (Dickerman) Witt.  He was Valedictorian of the Class of 1959 at Dwight David Eisenhower High School of Blue Island, Illinois, then went on to earn a Bachelorís Degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois and a Masterís of Business Administration from Carnegie Tech.

Lane worked for Celanese Corporation in New York City and Los Angeles before taking an ownership interest in National Plastics Company of Pasadena, California, in 1972.  He worked as Vice President of National Plastics until 1979, when he and his family embarked on a year-long trip that took them through much of the United States, visiting Christian communities. In 1980, Lane moved to Aumsville.  He founded Micro Computers for Business in Stayton and was, for many years, an active member of the Stayton Rotary Club and the Stayton-area chapter of Full Gospel Businessmenís Fellowship.  He was also a Computer Science instructor at Chemeketa Community College. For the past 17 years, Lane worked for Cascade Employers Association in Salem, ultimately serving as Director of Information Services.  Lane cherished the many friends he made during his years at Cascade, and truly regarded his years there as a blessing.

His greatest joy was his 48 loving years of marriage with Marsha Karen (Berg) Witt.  Marsha was his high school sweetheart, and they were married in 1962 in Blue Island.  Lane and Marsha were best friends and, above all, shared a love of God and a devotion to Christian service. Lane was a godly man, filled with wisdom, love and integrity.  He was active in Salemís Seed of Faith Ministries, serving as a Deacon, Treasurer, Board Member, and choir member.

Lane is survived by his wife Marsha; his children Lane (Jennifer), Michelle Slate (Terry) and Kevin (Martha); his nine grandchildren; and his cousin Raye Ellen Beaty.  In recent years, he took special pleasure in supporting the activities of his grandchildren Ė delighting in their learning, their sports events, and their many additional extra-curricular pursuits.

The family is very grateful for the support of Signature Hospice, which allowed Lane to be at home when he passed.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Bethel Baptist Church, 645 Cleveland Street, Aumsville.  A viewing will precede the service, 10:30 to 11 a.m., at Bethel Baptist Church.
