Aumsville – Vinson,
86, died August 19 in Salem, surrounded by his family.
He was born in LaMesa, TX.
Vinson lived in Texas and New Mexico most of his life,
until moving to the Aumsville area 4 ˝ years ago, to be next door
to his son & daughter-in-law.
He graduated from Lubbock High School in Lubbock, Texas.
He received a BS & MS in Education from Western NM
University in Silver City, NM.
He served in the US Air Force for over 32 years.
He also served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
During WWII he received many medals including the
Presidential Unit Citation Medal, an Air Medal and the Bronze
After retiring from the
USAF, Vinson was an instructor for the Northrop Corporation.
He had a lifelong love of swimming, was a lifeguard, and an
instructor for American Red Cross.
Vinson was a member of the Brotherhood of Freemason’s for
over 50 years. He
enjoyed Judo, wood working, dachshund dogs and Siamese cats.
He married Sarah K.
VonTress on December 18, 1950 in Silver City, NM; she preceded him
in death on January 24, 1992.
Vinson is survived by his son - Vincent (wife Debra)
Cargile of Aumsville, OR; brother - Victor Cargile of Aumsville,
OR; granddaughter - Brandy (Husband Jason) Bane of Salem, OR and
great-grandson - Braxon Bane of Salem, OR.
Services will be Friday,
September 16, 2011 at Noon at Sunset Funeral Home in San Antonio,
TX. Interment will be
in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX. Locally
serving the family, North
Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
