Regina Magee, 85, went
home to be with the Lord on Sunday at Marian Estates in Sublimity,
Oregon. Ms. Magee was born in Port Angeles, Wash., to James J. and
Hazel Ann (Cowden) Magee. Her father was an immigrant from
Belfast, Ireland. She graduated in 1944 from Quillayute High
School in Forks, Washington and from Marylhurst College near
Portland in 1952 with a degree in elementary education.
Regina worked at Meier
& Frank Department Store in Portland, Oregon, Cascade Plywood
in Portland, at a battery factory in Lebanon, Oregon and at the
Lebanon Telephone Co. for a time. Her first teaching position was
at Park Street Elementary School in Hood River, Oregon. She was
teaching at Halsey Elementary School in Halsey, Oregon, when she
was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
Regina liked to travel
and did so frequently with her friends Rita Fox and Mildred
Vodjansky. She traveled as far as Medjugorje in the former
Yugoslavia. In 2006, she moved from The Oaks Assisted Living in
Lebanon, Oregon, to Marian Estates in Sublimity, Oregon.
Ms. Magee was a member
of the Oregon Education Association, Catholic Daughters of America
at St. Edward Catholic Church in Lebanon, Oregon, and, at the time
of her death, was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in
Sublimity, Oregon. She was grateful to the church members,
especially Wayne Silbernagel, who drove her to Mass each week and
to all at Marian Estates who, daily, gave her tender, loving care.
Regina is survived by
one sister, Kathleen Smyth of Hayfork, California; numerous nieces
and nephews, and good friends and advocates for her, Helen
Bellinger of Lebanon, Oregon and Kathleen Schrock of Tangent,
Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers
James and John “Gary” Magee and their spouses.
Viewing will be at
Huston-Jost Funeral Home, 86 W. Grant, Lebanon, Oregon, on
Thursday, August 25 from 5-7 p.m., with a Rosary following at 7
p.m. A memorial Mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Edward
Catholic Church, 100 Main St. Lebanon.
In lieu of flowers,
Regina requested that donations be made to St. Edward Catholic
Church. A private interment will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery,
beside her parents, in Lebanon, Oregon. Huston-Jost Funeral home
is handling arrangements.
