LeRoy Peterson was
born in Tekamah, Nebraska on the 15th day of October, 1924.
LeRoy entered his heavenly home on Sunday the 9th
and was welcomed by his daughter, Karen who preceded him
in 1946. He was 86.
The son of Leslie and Irene Peterson.
LeRoy was raised in Nebraska, he graduated from Tekamah
high school and had attended the University of Nebraska in
Lincoln. He served as a medic in the US Army and the occupation of
Japan after WWII. He
was married to Alice Loftis on December 16 1944 in Tekamah, they
just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. While living in Nebraska he had worked as a
farmer, they moved to Columbia Falls, Montana in 1954 where he
worked in the sawmills and aluminum plant.
In 1975 they moved to Salem, together they had a vending
business. He retired and drove school bus for Salem schools. He
had also worked at the Salem Hospital in the maintenance dept.,
then as a crossing guard for Salem schools retiring at age 83.
He enjoyed Spending time with his family, music and
singing, reading and playing cards.
He was a member of the Baptist Church and had served many
years as a Deacon.
LeRoy is survived by
his beloved wife, Alice; daughters, Jan (Mike) Wickstrom, Kathy
(Asa) Hurley and Suzi Simonsen all of Salem;
brothers, Peter of Colorado Springs, Colorado &
Delbert of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters, Veda Abbott of Minnesota
and Vada Cassell of Escondido, California; 7 grandchildren; and
13 great grandchildren.
A memorial service is
scheduled for Saturday, January 15th at 2:00 pm at the Capital
Baptist Church, Salem. Interment
will be private. Memorials may be
made to Odyssey Hospice. Arrangements
entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services.
