Florence E. Forrest
June 3, 1923 – March 15, 2012
 

Salem - Florence was born in Anaconda, Montana to Alfred and Essie (Blodgett) Lucas, the fifth of eight children. They moved to Oregon in 1925. She attended Stayton Union High School. She married Stanley James Forrest in 1940, in Vancouver, WA.

She was very involved with their children’s various activities, including Scouting, 4-H, Job’s Daughters, and DeMolay. She loved gardening and became a Master Gardener in The Dalles. She was a very social and giving person who enjoyed the company of her friends and family.

She and her husband were charter members of the Horseless Carriage Club and the Model T Ford Club in Salem and members of the Mid-Columbia Car Club in The Dalles. Together they restored many antique cars and enjoyed touring in them. She created many beautiful costumes for her entire family and other club members.

Florence was very proud of her career as a bookkeeper for Sears, Paris Woolen Mills and Gerlinger Power Products.

She is survived by 4 children: Sandra (Bruce Cooper) Fritz, The Dalles; Stan (Jody Merck) Forrest , Lyons; Sheryl Forrest, Jefferson; and Scott (Haylin Thornton) Forrest, Salem; grandchildren Paul (Becky) Fritz, Santa Barbara, CA; Molly Fritz, Long Beach, CA; Sarah (John) Brady, Columbus, GA; Dawn (Ben) Armstrong, Tucson, AZ; and Todd (Megan) Forrest, Lyons; great-grandchildren Ethan, Duncan, and Reina Fritz; Devin and Valerie Armstrong; and Savannah and Alli Forrest; brothers, Louis Lucas and Rex Lucas, and sister, Margaret Kergil, and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 64 years, Stanley James Forrest, her daughter, Susan and 2 infant sons, Gary and Darryl; and siblings Dorothy Keebler, Robert Lucas, Mary Gulliford, and Doris Hutchins.

Florence passed peacefully on Thursday morning with her family by her side. The family wishes to thank Salem Hospital, Odyssey Hospice and Families In Transition for the loving care given Florence in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 707 13th St SE #299, Salem, Oregon, 97301, or a charity of choice.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012, from 1pm-4pm, at the Eagles, 2771 Pence Loop, SE, Salem. Serving the family,  North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
