Gladys Emma Weddle McCall
August 9, 1914  -  April 12, 2012

Bend - Gladys , 97, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on April 12, 2012.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Buford, in 1977.  She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Keyes Lyle and son-in-law Boyd Lyle, grandson Jamie Lyle and daughter-in law Kristen Lyle, great-grandson Aden Lyle, sister Bula Smith and many nieces and nephews.

Gladys was born August 9,1914, in Eugene, Oregon to William and Sarah (Wilson) Weddle. She was the youngest of 6 children, Cleo Hiatt, Marie Smith, Wendel Weddle, Gloria Heater, Bula and Gladys.

Gladys lived most of her life in Stayton close to many of her family who remained in the Willamette Valley.  There she attended school, graduated from Stayton Union High School and then attended business college in Salem.

Gladys wed Buford McCall in August, 1958, and they enjoyed life with great friends and family, traveling and exploring the outdoors, fishing, dancing, and playing golf. They began by building their home with the help of his brothers and friends, from the recovered yellow bricks and materials of the Stayton schoolhouse where Gladys went to High School and Pamela attended Junior High. They helped build the first nine-hole Stayton Golf Course where they were charter members.

Gladys was a lifetime member of Stayton Christian Church. She was also a friend of the First Presbyterian Church of Bend since 2008 when she went to live with her daughter's family. In 2010 Gladys moved to the Klahani Home for Ladies and Gentlemen under the tender loving care of Raquel Alexander who was like a daughter.

Gladys believed in her family's philosophy of always reaching out to help others and giving of herself. She gained many dear friends wherever she went along her journey. She was a member of The Santiam Memorial  Hospital and various charities.

Throughout her whole life from a very young age, she was passionately devoted to animals.  She enjoyed watching wildlife and exploring nature. Like her mother she loved flowers, visiting gardens and was a good gardener. Gladys was an excellent bowler and played in several leagues until she was 93. She was a good athlete since youth. She was a supporter of the Salem Symphony and enjoyed a variety of music. She played the Banjo Ukulele.

She regularly attended Oregon State basketball games. Gladys enjoyed traveling with her daughter, family and friends. Like her mother she was a talented seamstress.

Gladys' professional life included jobs as a bookkeeper, working for the Shipyard in Vancouver during WWII, and various jobs in banks in Portland and Stayton. She retired August 9, 1974, from First Federal Savings and Loan Association.  She was a member of Business and Professional Women (BPW) and Toastmasters.

Gladys will be remembered as a gracious lady and a joyful, gentle, kind and generous soul with a beautiful smile.  She was an intelligent and wonderful mother, wife, grandparent, sister, aunt and friend who was deeply loved and will be sincerely missed. Viewing will be Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 3 8 pm Funeral Service will be Friday, April 20, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Stayton Christian Church in Stayton. Interment in Lone Oak Cemetery, Stayton.
