Diane F. Nelson “Mommafay” Nye
March 25, 1951 - July 2, 2012

Stayton - Diane, loving wife, adorable Momma, special friend to so many, claimed victory over cancer by receiving her angel wings on July 2nd at the age of 61. She battled breast cancer since 2000. Her unwavering faith in God and the will to be here for her children, grandchildren, and her husband has been an inspiration to so many. Our family finds peace knowing that she is dancing with Jesus and no longer in pain.

She has provided hope for so many. We are ever thankful and honored to have had her in our life! Diane was born in Aberdeen, S.D. to parents Edna and Donald Nelson. She ultimately ended up residing in San Diego, California where she met, and very quickly fell for the man of her dreams, the love of her life, and her best friend JR Nye. They shared an intense and deep rooted love from that moment. They officially joined their two hearts with a promise of unconditional love and commitment to one another on July 15th, 1978. Together from this love for each other they created an extremely close-knit family of 8, lovingly known as “The Nyes” They raised their six children on large doses of love and values, that Diane instilled in each of them. Their home was built on this very love and togetherness that was so important to both of them. One of these values is the importance of family. A near weekly tradition at the Nye house is “Family Night” for which her loving children have awarded her “Mom of a Lifetime.”

Diane is preceded in death by her father Donald Nelson; mother Edna Wiseman; sister Phyllis Phyle; and brothers Tony Jacobson and Ronald “Ronnie” Nelson. She survived by her husband JR; daughter Sara (Kary); son Joshua (Melissa); son Gabriel (Nicole); daughter Christiana; son Noah (Courtney); daughter Danielle, daughter Julie Shafer, granddaughter Annabelle Diane; and sister Opal Marangon (Rudy).

There will be a celebration of Diane’s life at the Morning Star Community Church in Salem, Oregon on Tuesday July 10th at 1 p.m. There will be a reception following. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Youth Missions at Morningstar Community Church in honor of her. The family asks that you jot down a special memory that you have of Diane, so that we can share them amongst family, friends, and grandchildren for years to come. There will also be cards provided at the service to do so. She was certainly an angel walking amongst us, and what better way to help keep her memory alive! We love and miss you terribly Mommafay, thank you for the God winks! Until we meet again, “love and angel hugs.”

Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
