Stayton – Dorothy
passed away peacefully with family by her side on the morning of
June 14, 2012. She was the sixth of 14 children born to John and
Catherine Andreas in Toppenish, WA. Dorothy was raised in Gervais,
where she met the love of her life, her “habit”, Jerry Weigel.
They were married in Gervais on September 19, 1942. They lived in
various towns in Oregon and Washington, finally settling in
Stayton in 1955. Together they raised seven children.
She was a homemaker
until deciding to work at Norpac after her youngest child was in
middle school. Her intention was to earn enough money to purchase
a new dining room set and once that was purchased, she continued
working to help put her children through St. Mary elementary
school and Regis High School, finally retiring in 1984.
Dorothy loved her
catholic faith. She would wake her family up every morning with a
prayer. She would recite the rosary daily. A rosary hung on her
treadmill as she would recite it during exercise. She took pride
in gardening and was an expert at crocheting beautiful pictures,
doilies, Christmas Tree skirts and more. She was an amazing cook
and no one, no matter how hard they try, can duplicate her fried
chicken! In recent years she enjoyed being taken for walks in old
downtown Stayton and watching all the “action”, country
drives, watching the Ellen Show, watching I Love Lucy with her
grandkids, going out to lunch and spending time with her family,
especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by her husband Jerry “Chum”, her son Lee, her
granddaughter Jaime Miotke and great-grandson John Walls. Dorothy
is survived by her children Jerry (Barbi) Weigel of Olympia, WA.,
Barbara (Jim) Larkins of Long Beach, WA., Phil (Diane) Weigel of
Keizer, Lyn Weigel of Stayton, Cherryl (Dan) Dunn of Eugene, and
Joanne (Leonard) Lulay of Sublimity. She is also survived by 12
grandchildren and 7 great-grand-children. Her surviving siblings
are her sister, MaryLou Jacobs of Gladstone and brother Gerald
Andreas of Dundee.
The family would like to
extend their heartfelt love and appreciation to Mario, Lupe,
Janet, Carmen and Dania of Mountain Creek Care Home in Stayton.
They were family to Dorothy and their love and care for her went
above and beyond any expectation. She loved her home. The family
would also like to lovingly thank Kay Pendleton and Carol Forrette
for their weekly visits and administration of the Holy Eucharist.
Mass of Christian Burial
will be Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 11:00 am at Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church in Stayton with interment in St. Mary
Cemetery. Donations may be made in her honor to Regis High School,
Stayton, OR., or Willamette Valley Hospice. Serving the family, North
Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
