– Marcella was born from the union of Jacob Frank and
Katherine Margaret Lulay, and she was the youngest of 14
children. Marcella grew up in Sublimity and attended St.
Boniface grade school and high school, graduating in 1941. She
was a World War II Veteran, joining the Navy in 1944, becoming
a Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class, after the War she attended
Capitol Business College for Secretarial training.
1948, she married Max E. Hafner, they later divorced in 1974,
she had three children, Susan (Ken) Karnosh of Salem,
Jeannette (David) Butler of Stayton and Michael (Priscilla)
Hafner of Sublimity. Marcella adored her grandchildren, Jason
Butler, David Jr. (Jacquelynn) Butler, Julie Butler and
Christopher Hafner, also her great-grandchildren, Jessica
Butler, Brianna Butler, Samantha Butler and Abigail Butler.
She babysat them all, and loved the babies.
made a career of Nursing with the Santiam Memorial Hospital,
Oregon State Deaf School, and finally Stayton Canning.
Marcella had a passion for playing cards, bingo and gambling and
loved visiting with her family and friends, she also enjoyed
spending time at the Oregon Coast.

am both at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Stayton.
Interment in St. Boniface Cemetery, Sublimity. Flowers or
contributions may be made to Willamette Valley Hospice or St.
Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Serving the family, North
