John “Hank” Hardee
August 30, 1926 – December 4, 2013

Scio – Hank, 87, died December 4 in Scio. He was born in Lakeland, FL and raised in Chiefland, FL. He moved to Whittier, CA in 1969 and retired in Scio in 2003. Hank served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He worked as state tax collector in Florida, also for Rockwell International as a mechanical design engineer on the Apollo missions through the Shuttle program.

In 1978, while working full time, he went to law school and became an attorney in 1982. He was a member of the Whittier Host Lions Club in CA, the Mason’s Santiam Lodge #25 and past District Grand Master in Florida, American Legion Santiam Post 51 and a Ham radio operator for emergency response for the Linn County Sheriff. Hank enjoyed woodworking, dancing, and as a musician he played the piano, trumpet and drums.

He married Shirley Moring in August of 1958 in Lakeland, FL. Hank was a member of the California State Bar and was a past President of the Whittier Bar Association. 

He is survived by his wife: Shirley Hardee of Scio; son: John H. (Jean McConnell) Hardee II of Portland; daughter: Tantris (Charles) Hernandez of North Hollywood, CA; and grandson: Conrad McConnell of Portland.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Stayton United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Contributions may be made to the church. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
