Alfred Stephenson passed away on October 14th at his home in
Salem at the age of 82. Ken was born in Jefferson, OR., to
Frank and Margaret Stephenson. He was one of 6 siblings and
grew up in Portland, OR. He attended Roosevelt High School,
and served as a sergeant for 3 years in the Air Force.
married Roselee Gurtina of Portland, OR. After two years they
were transferred from Portland to Lyons where he worked for
Simpsons Lumber Company. Shortly after, he moved to Stayton
and was employed by Norpac Foods, Inc. for 37 years. He
retired as their Corporate Safety Director.
first marriage ended after 36 years. He later met and married
Vicki Siewert, and they resided in Salem, OR for 23 years.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Vicki of Salem, OR., Kathleen
Denning (Don), of Bend, OR, Julie McKinnon of Lacomb, OR,
Dennis Stephenson of Stayton, OR, Michael (Lisa) Stephenson of
Salem, OR, Fred Stephenson of Portland, OR. Step children,
Mitch Siewert of Portland, OR and Marilee Siewert of Salem,
OR, 13 Grandchildren, and 12 Great Grandchildren; One brother,
George (Wanda) Stephenson of Salem, OR, and Many nieces and
was a wonderfully loving family man true to his family, his
friends and was steadfast to the principles he lived by. He
will be remembered for his positive outlook on life as well as
his endless love for sports and competition. He touched the
hearts of so many in the community through his years of youth
coaching and refereeing. He loved supporting his children's
and grandchildren's teams.
though he participated in many sports his friends knew him
best as an avid golfer. As a Charter Member of Santiam Golf
Course, he played there daily with his friends, family and
shot 2 of his 4 hole in ones on this course.
service with immediate family will be held at Willamette
National Cemetery in Portland, OR. Formal services will be at
11:00 am, Saturday, October 26th at United Methodist Church at
1450 Fern Ridge Rd. SE, in Stayton, OR and followed by a
Celebration of Life at the Santiam Golf Course Banquet Room at
8725 Golf Club Rd. in Aumsville, OR. In lieu of flowers
donations can be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America or
Salvation Army. Arrangements are by City View Funeral Home.
