Shirley L. Grimes,
79, passed away peacefully on August 27 in Portland, with
family and close friends by her side. Shirley was born in Mill
City and grew up in Lyons, graduating from Stayton High
School. She lived in various places throughout her life and
settled back in Salem many years ago.
She worked in
Quality Control at Norpac for over 20 years as a dedicated
employee. Shirley enjoyed being a member of the Eagles, Moose
Lodge, Keizer Senior Center and St. Mary’s Catholic Church
in Shaw. She enjoyed playing bunco, bingo, and beating
everyone at card games. Shirley
loved to travel anywhere-anytime as far away as Hawaii, Hong
Kong and Japan.
welcomed all company with open arms and her ‘door is always
open’ spirit. Visiting with family and friends was always a special time
Shirley is survived
by her sister: Beverly (Doug) Barrow of Salem, OR; lifelong
and Doug Ames of Renton, WA; numerous family and friends; and
remained close to the extended Grimes family.
Aunt Shirley played a very active roll in raising her
many nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly. She was
preceded in death by parents, Forrest and Effie Nydegger,
brother, Cletus and sister, Mabel.
Mass of Christian
Burial will be Saturday, September 13,
11:00 am, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shaw.
Reception immediately following in the church hall. The
Interment will be at Fox Valley Cemetery, Lyons afterwards.
