Barbara Hitchcock

December 30, 1925 - May 5 2014

Sublimity - Barbara, 88, died peacefully Monday morning, May 5 with family by her side. She was born in Milton-Freewater, the third child to Frank and Amanda Shinkle. Barbara lived most of her life in Stayton and Sublimity spending a little time in Lebanon. She was a spot welder in the ship yards in Portland during the war then worked at a woolen mill. Barbara was a waitress at Stella’s restaurant in Stayton, then a homemaker and a Mom. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers, playing Pinochle with friends and sisters of the Victoria chapter of Eastern Star and she loved her grandkids.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, RV, older sisters Eleanor Short and Margaret Horner, youngest sister, Nancy Hodges, nephew, Jim Horner, and her eldest son, Frank Horner. She is survived by her brother: Jim Shinkle of Belton, TX; sister: Frances Shinkle of Stayton; sons: Robert (Wendy) Hitchcock and Phillip Hitchcock both of Sublimity; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Private family celebration of life will be held at Union Hill Cemetery, Sublimity, in lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
