Sublimity – James
(Jim to friends and family), 73, died Saturday in Salem. He
was born in Lebanon, but grew up in Sodaville. Jim served as a
US Marine during the Vietnam War. He returned to Oregon and
worked as a mechanic and truck driver until getting a Masters
of Forestry at OSU and working for the Oregon Department of
Jim married Roseann
Butler on January 22, 1966, in Sublimity. Together, they
raised three children in The Dalles alongside their lifelong
friends, the Kornegays. They moved back to Sublimity in 1990.
After retiring from ODF, Jim maintained a herd of cattle on
his family’s farm in Sodaville. Other than a brief time in
Missouri, Jim and Roseann lived their entire life in Oregon.
Jim loved the
outdoors and was a dedicated hunter, camper, boater, fisher,
and explorer. Jim and Roseann enjoyed exploring the continent
in their RV. Jim was an avid reader and a gifted woodworker.
Jim was a direct, linear descendant of Ruben S. Coyle, an
original pioneer and signer of the Oregon Constitution. He was
a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Elks,
Toastmasters, and the National Firefighters Association.
Jim is survived by
his wife: Roseann of Sublimity; father: Alton Coyle of
Lebanon; children: Jason (Janet) Coyle of Sublimity, Bryan (Nakeshia)
Coyle of Salem and Joanie (Craig) Wigginton of Sublimity;
sister: Jadala Coyle of Lebanon; 8 grandchildren and 1
great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris,
brother, Doug and sister, Lois Reasoner.
Visitation will be
Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 7-8 pm at North Santiam Funeral
Service in Stayton. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday,
March 19, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Boniface Catholic Church in
Sublimity, with interment following in St. Boniface Cemetery.
