Loyal Creswell
August 5, 1923-March 8, 2015

Aumsville-Loyal 91, died Sunday, March 8 in Salem. He was born in River Falls WI, the seventh of seven children to Smiley Boman Creswell and Sadie Mildred Peterson Creswell. He graduated from River Falls High School in 1944 and immediately joined the Army Air Corp attaining the rank of 2nd Lt. flying missions over both Italy and North Africa.

Before leaving for overseas he married his high school sweetheart Eloise Jenkins in Charleston S.C. When he returned from overseas he and Eloise lived in their hometown of River Falls where their daughter Sandee was born, until moving to Stevensville MT, in 1948 then to Bozeman where he both attended college and taught classes in agriculture.

In 1952 the family moved to Albany OR where he was employed by Pictsweet, later Stokley-VanCamp, as a fieldman. In 1959 he was employed by NorPac for 30 years retiring as head of the field department. During this time he assisted in developing a variety of sweet corn that earned him a place in the Agricultural Hall of Fame at Oregon State University.

Loyal was an avid football fan especially of the Green Bay Packers, being a true cheese head. It was always an honor for him to watch his grandson, one of his son-in-laws and 3 of his great grandsons play football. He loved woodworking, farming, gardening and playing cards and mostly his family and felt he was truly blessed to have them all so close and to watch them grow.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Eloise, his daughter Sandee (Jim Reed), grandson Erik Reed, granddaughters Erin (Toby Hill) Kiersten (Travis King) and Karryn (Ben Laro) and 13 great grandchildren Corbyn, Annika and Teaghan Reed, Aidan, Kaelyn and Rian Hill, Bryan, Colby and Travis King and Isaac, Gabby, Reed, and Logan Laro. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and three sisters.

A memorial service will be held Sunday March 15, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Calvary Lutheran Church in Stayton, OR where he was a member. Contributions in his name may be made either to Calvary Lutheran or Shriner's Hospital or to the OSU Horticulture Dept. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
