Esther, 81, died August 13, 2015
in Springfield. She was born in Prospect to Paul and Fannie
Snook, and she lived all of her life in Oregon. Esther taught
elementary school for 34 years in Stayton, Sublimity, and
Medford; she had a passion for talented and gifted kids, as
well as kids with disabilities. She was a member of Stayton
United Methodist Church for 56 years and more recently the
First United Methodist Church in Eugene.
She taught Sunday
school for many years. Esther was a member of the Order of the
Eastern Star - Victoria Chapter #76, Turner and Order of the
Amaranth - Cherry Court in Salem and Douglas Court in Roseburg
and Habitat for Humanity. She was a past recipient of Woman of
the Year in Stayton/Sublimity and Oregon Elementary Science
Teacher of the Year.
reading, gardening, writing poetry, playing scrabble and
pinochle, and being outdoors, camping and backpacking.
She married Bert
Simmons in 1953 and had 4 children: Mary Simmons of Bothell,
WA, Sandy Jones of Portland, Steve Simmons of Salem, and John
Simmons of Granby, CO. Esther married John Heilbronner on July
3, 1977 at Suttle Lake.
Esther is survived
by her husband, John, of Springfield and children Katherine
Wilson of Leaburg, Fred Heilbronner of Eugene, Cinthia
Erickson of Springfield, John C. Heilbronner of Coburg. She is
also survived by her brother Gene Snook of Central Point,
sister Patricia Parent of Central Point, 14 grandchildren and
4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
brother, Stanley Snook.
A Celebration of
Life service for Esther will be Saturday,
September 19, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Stayton United
Methodist Church. Contributions may be made to Stayton Food
Bank, Habitat for Humanity, and Signature Hospice. Serving the
