- Evelyn Arlene Jordan was born March 19,
1923 on the family farm in Mott, ND to John & Christine
(Van Lishout) Thompson. She was the 8th of 9 children whom all
have preceded her to heaven.
1936 the family moved to Oregon, bringing with them only what
would fit in their small pick-up truck. They settled in
Stayton where she lived most of her life. At age 17 Evelyn
moved to Valley Springs, CA, and a year later moved to
Burbank, CA. It was while living there that she enlisted in
the US Navy (WAVES) in 1944. Evelyn served as a Seaman First
Class. While stationed in Trenton, NJ she was an airplane
mechanic working on P38's and Hellcats. In 1946 after she was
honorably discharged Evelyn returned to Stayton and went to
work at Paris Woolen Mill for the next 20 years.
1946 she married Durrel Jordan at the Lutheran Church in
Salem, OR. He passed away in 1988. Evelyn was a very
talented artist, painting many beautiful florals and
landscapes. She also loved to China paint and make porcelain
dolls and all their clothes. Her other passions were
playing cards with her friends 2 -3 times a week.
loved to watch Seattle Mariner's games, dancing and she loved
Betty Boop. Evelyn enjoyed traveling. When she was 69 she sold
her home and bought a motor home. Evelyn joined a caravan of Snowbirds
and started off on the journey of a lifetime making many
friends all over the United States. She had 10 wonderful years
on the road and the time of her life. Evelyn loved life
and lived it to the fullest.
was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers;
John, Alfred, Glen, Bill, Ernie and Ed, and sisters; Helen
Core and Stella Lulay. Evelyn is survived by her son: Steve
(Connie) Jordan of Stayton; daughters: Sheila (Chuck)
Ruettgers of Mill City and Lynn (Terry) Ross of Mill
City; grandchildren: Durrel Jordan, Stephanie Davis, Renee
Ross and Shannon Ross; great-grandchildren: Brooke &
Alli Jordan and Emma Ross; and many beloved nieces and
nephews. You were the best Mom, now you are
our Angel. We'll hold you in our hearts forever, until we meet
again in Heaven.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday,
September 2, 2015 at Calvary
