William (Bill) Ignatius Steinkamp
December 29, 1928 – September 6, 2015

Sublimity –Bill, 86, died of heart failure on Sunday, September 6, 2015. Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doneva (Fery) Steinkamp; sons: Peter (Lynda), Edward (Wendy) & Alan (Amy) Steinkamp; daughters: Patricia & Sandra Steinkamp, Joyce (Chuck) Gibson, Karen (Larry) Hicks, Carol (Marvin) Marcelo & Anna (Sean) Arquette; siblings: Vince (Darlene), Sister Mary Julia &  Zita Steinkamp and 16 grandchildren. Bill was born on December 29, 1928 to Felix and Veronica Steinkamp of Brooks, Oregon. He attended Sacred Heart Academy in Salem and attended college at Gonzaga University. Bill delayed his education to serve his country in the Korean War before returning to Gonzaga to earn degrees in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering.  During his career, he worked at GE, Lockheed, UTC, and FMC.  While working at GE, Bill and a co-worker were awarded a patent as inventors of the electronic fusion welding method and apparatus, used in the fabrication of components for the atomic energy and rocket fields.

Bill enjoyed problem solving and was always willing to help others.  His garage was the one that neighbors came to when they needed help or to borrow tools.  He particularly enjoyed keeping up with his widespread family and friends by sending and receiving e-mails.  Bill was a generous man,  dedicated husband, caring father, and doting grandfather.  He now rests in God's loving arms.
