Florence “Shirley” Beck

February 21, 1930 – February 16, 2016

Sublimity – Shirley, 85, died February 16 at her home in Sublimity. She was born in Swea City, IA, to Merle and Dorothy Robinson and lived in Minnesota as a child, graduating from Brookston High School as valedictorian. She married William “Bill” Beck on March 15, 1952 in Duluth, MN.

Shirley worked as an accounting clerk at an insurance company and at California State University, Northridge. Shirley was a very devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed sending cards for birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries with significant words or phrases underlined. She also enjoyed camping, horses, dogs, and anything done with her family.  She was a wonderful cook (especially banana nut bread), entertainer, and loved hosting her family and friends. Shirley and Bill moved to their beloved log home outside of Sisters, Oregon in 1989 (heaven on earth) until moving to Sublimity in 2015.

She is survived by her husband: William H. of Sublimity; children: Robin (Gary) Hedrick of Grants Pass and William J. Beck (Sharon) of Stayton; four grandchildren: Scott (Val) Hedrick of Klamath Falls, William C. Beck (Corinne) of Houston, Texas, Laura Murray of Keizer, Oregon and Karen (Elliott) Ramos of Tualatin, Oregon; great-grandchildren: Katelyn and Eli Hedrick, Julie Murray, and baby Beck due at the end of May. Shirley was preceded in death by three brothers.
