Edna Marie Hortsch
August 3, 1935 – July 31. 2016

Aumsville – Edna, 80, died Sunday, July 31 at home. She was born in Pittsville, WI and has lived in the community since 1958. Edna married John Hortsch on July 7, 1956 in Silverton. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Edna lived her faith as a life-long Catholic serving as an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shaw. She made pilgrimages to Rome, Ireland, France, and Jerusalem.

Edna also dedicated much of her life in service to her community, serving as the treasurer of the Corn Festival for about the last 25 years. For decades, she could be found working in the Shaw booth at the Mt. Angel Oktoberfest.  She had a green thumb and, with her husband, tended a large garden specializing in dahlias.

Edna is survived by husband John J. Hortsch of Aumsville; sons John M. (Laura) Hortsch of Aumsville, James Hortsch of Lincoln City, Michael Hortsch of Salem, and Gary (Eva) Hortsch of Portland; grandchildren William (Shannon) Hortsch, Ann (Josh) Hoyer, August Hortsch, and Coral Hortsch; great-grandchildren Grace Hortsch, Liam Hortsch, and John F. Hoyer; sisters Gertrude Borschowa of Mt. Angel, Cecelia Schiedler of Scotts Mills, and Alice McHugh of Sumner, WA; and brother Frank (Joyce) Gubbels of Silverton.

Recitation of the Rosary will be Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 7:00pm and Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 5, 2016 at 11:00am, both at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shaw. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Shaw. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
