Drusilla “Dru” Lackner
February 16, 1951 – December 26, 2016

Salem - Drusilla “Dru” Lackner came into this world on February 16, 1951, and left us for her final home in heaven on December 26, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. Dru was a longtime resident of the Stayton/Scio area, known for her huge smile and love of visiting with anyone who had a moment to talk.

Dru attended St. Mary’s School in Stayton and graduated from Regis High School. She was constant in her Catholic faith. She lived most of her life on the family farm southeast of Stayton where she was often seen hiking through the countryside to visit neighbors. She loved spending Sunday afternoons sharing a meal with family and then sitting down to a game of cards. Dru especially loved the babies in the family and hearing about the adventures of her nieces and nephews. Day trips to the beach or the penny slot machines at Spirit Mountain were also two of Dru’s pleasures.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Genevieve (Voltin) Lackner. She is survived by her eleven siblings: Cec Jensen (Phil) of Gleneden Beach; Judy Seeger (Dave) of Stayton; Angie Grantz (Mick) of Portland; Steve Lackner (Pat) of Lyons; Jerry Lackner (Karen) of Lyons; Monica Lawson (Bruce) of Lyons; Joe Lackner (Cindy) of Scio; Theresa Novak of Salem; Melissa Stevie of Salem; Jeff Lackner (Barb) of Naples, FL; Mary Foltz (Denny) of Scio; and many treasured nieces and nephews.

Dru’s wish for her family and friends would be that everyone sit down with family to share a meal, enjoy some dessert (preferably chocolate), play a game of cards or whatever game is a tradition in your family, take a walk in the woods, and smile, because in Dru’s words, “that’s the way it’s supposed to be.”

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers who helped Dru over the years, and especially to the staff at Willson House in Salem who helped care for her during these last few months. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Willamette Valley Hospice, St. Mary’s School, or OHSU Knight Cancer Institute for GIST research. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, January 2, 2017, at 11:00am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Jordan. Interment to follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. Family served by North Santiam Funeral Service.
