Marcella Ann Lulay
January 10, 1924 - July 2, 2016

Sublimity - Marcella Ann (Gries) Lulay was born 1/10/24 in Sublimity, Oregon, to parents Peter and Nettie Gries.  She and twin sister Muriel (Hafner) were the firstborn of seven children.  She lived her entire life in Sublimity and graduated from St. Boniface elementary and high schools.  Following high school she worked in the office at Roaring River Logging Co. in Scio, Oregon until her marriage to the love of her life, Ralph M. Lulay, in 1946.  Ralph and Marcy spent the next 30 years raising their seven children.

Throughout her married life, Marcella was an active member of St. Boniface Church, donating her time to help with decorating, food preparation, sacristan duties, etc. for weddings, funerals and daily services.

Marcy’s favorite hobby during much of her life was sewing.  From 7th grade 4-H projects, such as an apron and potholder, to sewing clothes for her children, eventually creating more elaborate prom dresses, suits and wedding attire – her talent as a seamstress was legendary.

Marcy and Ralph enjoyed some travel after their family was grown. They enjoyed a cruise to Alaska and trips to Hawaii, the East coast and Europe, including tours in London, Rome and Paris.  In later years, due to failing eyesight, Marcy had to give up many of her interests – sewing, traveling and reading became experiences of her past, or enjoyed via those shared by her family.

Marcy’s faith and love of God were first and foremost at the center of her family life.  She demonstrated and taught these important values, along with those of responsibility, honesty and the benefit of hard work.  She will be forever held close in the hearts of all who knew her.

Marcy’s devoted husband of 66 years preceded her in death in August 2012.  She is survived by her seven children:  Tim Lulay, Terry Lulay (Dicki), Danita Heuberger (Don), Marla Mack (Dennis), Lisa Nielson (Mike), Bart Lulay, and Carmel McClung (Tyler); 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; siblings Donna Lou Frost (Greg) of Stayton, Jim Gries of Stayton and Gary Gries (Cheryl) of Roseburg.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 7 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 11 a.m., both at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sublimity.  Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery in Sublimity.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary Grade School/Regis High School in Stayton.  Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
