Sublimity - Marcella
Ann (Gries) Lulay was born 1/10/24 in Sublimity, Oregon, to
parents Peter and Nettie Gries. She and twin sister Muriel (Hafner) were the firstborn of
seven children. She
lived her entire life in Sublimity and graduated from St.
Boniface elementary and high schools.
Following high school she worked in the office at
Roaring River Logging Co. in Scio, Oregon until her marriage
to the love of her life, Ralph M. Lulay, in 1946.
Ralph and Marcy spent the next 30 years raising their
married life, Marcella was an active member of St. Boniface
Church, donating her time to help with decorating, food
preparation, sacristan duties, etc. for weddings, funerals and
hobby during much of her life was sewing.
From 7th grade 4-H projects, such as an apron and
potholder, to sewing clothes for her children, eventually
creating more elaborate prom dresses, suits and wedding attire
– her talent as a seamstress was legendary.
Marcy and Ralph
enjoyed some travel after their family was grown. They enjoyed
a cruise to Alaska and trips to Hawaii, the East coast and
Europe, including tours in London, Rome and Paris. In later years, due to failing eyesight, Marcy had to give up
many of her interests – sewing, traveling and reading became
experiences of her past, or enjoyed via those shared by her
Marcy’s faith and
love of God were first and foremost at the center of her
family life. She
demonstrated and taught these important values, along with
those of responsibility, honesty and the benefit of hard work.
She will be forever held close in the hearts of all who
husband of 66 years preceded her in death in August 2012.
She is survived by her seven children:
Tim Lulay, Terry Lulay (Dicki), Danita Heuberger (Don),
Marla Mack (Dennis), Lisa Nielson (Mike), Bart Lulay, and
Carmel McClung (Tyler); 20 grandchildren and 25
great-grandchildren; siblings Donna Lou Frost (Greg) of
Stayton, Jim Gries of Stayton and Gary Gries (Cheryl) of
Recitation of the
Holy Rosary will be on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 7 p.m. and
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at
11 a.m., both at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sublimity.
Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery in
lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary Grade
School/Regis High School in Stayton.
