Robert Edward Meyer
July 16, 1928-May 26, 2016

Stayton - Bob was born in Sioux Falls, SD to Dr. and Mrs. Herbert Meyer. He attended schools in Long Beach, CA and then proceeded to attend several different colleges (Occidental College, San Jose State and University of California at Berkeley.) He played football at all these schools and enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, hunting, flying (power and glider soaring), hiking, camping, flat track motorcycle racing, rodeo, and the study of archaeology (Indian artifacts.) He became a licensed pilot after attending Haskell's Flying Service in Long Beach, CA.

In his spare time he enjoyed building model railroads, airplanes and Navy ships, accumulating quite a collection. In 1962 Bob was on the staff of the World Championship Skydiving Competition. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corp (Reserve) and was a Veteran of World War II and Korea. He has flown 35 different aircraft and gliders, including both civilian and Navy types

Bob held many different jobs over the years but his heart was set on helping others and he joined the LA County Fire Department where he proudly served as Fireman, Engineer, and Captain over the course of his career. Bob's life was anything but boring. He was adventurous and loved life to the fullest every single day. He became a born-again Christian when he was 42 years old and this radically changed his life. His new found love for Jesus flowed through him in all he did. After he retired, Bob held church services as a lay pastor at retirement and convalescent homes. He was a great teacher and story teller and people loved to listen to him.

Bob also had a great love for music. He loved to "jam" on his banjo, ukulele, piano and harmonica. He would always find friends to play with and this was a fun way for him to unwind and spend time with his friends. He loved to share his music with others and would often play in church or community events. Bob's love for life was evident in all he did. He often ended his emails or letters with "ain't life grand", which he truly believed!

Bob met the love of his life in 1993 and he married Karen Rosalie Stelle in March of 1994. Bob and Karen loved to travel and spent many days away at the Oregon and Washington Coast, some of their very favorite places to watch birds and admire God's creation. They have many wonderful memories and their love was so evident to all who knew them.

Bob is survived by his wife, Karen Rosalie Meyer, of Stayton; sister, Betty (Meyer) Woodhull of Paradise, CA; son, Patrick S. Meyer of Upland CA, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

There will be a Memorial Service in honor of Bob Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Foothills Church in Stayton, OR. (975 Fern Ridge Rd, Stayton, OR 97383) Contributions in Bob's name may be made to Foothills Church toward their mission program(s), as Bob's main goal in life was to make sure everyone knew about Jesus. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
