– Robert Lee Scott passed away August 4, 2016 due to
complications of multiple myeloma.
was born on September 5, 1945 to Helen Jean Renn Scott and
John E. Scott in Sunbury, PA. He attended Drumheller
Elementary, Sunbury Jr. High School and Sunbury High School.
Bob graduated from Bloomsburg State College, now Bloomsburg
University, in Bloomsburg, PA, with a degree in Mathematics.
He was Captain of his school’s Chess Club and Chess Team. He
attended Zion Lutheran Church in Sunbury, until he moved out
West and then he joined the Stayton United Methodist Church.
was a “moderator” he liked to call it, in the Adult Sunday
School, and was active in the weekly Bible Study group. He
joined the Army in 1968 and was stationed at Ft. Myer, VA,
with the Old Guard, 3rd Infantry, Ceremonial Unit. There he
met Mary Marking of Stayton.
was honorably discharged from the Army in 1970 and he and Mary
were married in 1972. He worked for Criterion in Washington,
D.C. until he and Mary moved to Oregon in 1977, after the
birth of their first son, Jeff. Jerald, Joseph and Janet
joined the family soon after. Bob was a Claims Examiner for
Sentry Insurance in Salem, at the time of his retirement in
2012. He was not only active in his church, but his community
as well, serving on the finance committee for the City of
Stayton and helping build the cafeteria at the high school in
is survived by his wife: Mary; sons: Jeff (Corrie) Scott and
children, Jayden and Kyle of Parker, CO, Jerry (Danyelle)
Scott and children, Will and Olivia of Stayton Joe (Abbey)
Scott and children, Avery and Ian of Sublimity, and daughter:
Janet Randall (Julius Pallotta) her son, Gabe and
step-daughter, Sierra of Graham, WA; and his sister: Barbara
(Bill) Shipman of Sunbury, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and half-brother,
John (Jack) Scott.
memorial service will be Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:00 am
at Stayton United Methodist Church. Private interment will be
in St. Mary Cemetery in Stayton, OR. In lieu of flowers
contributions may be made to Stayton United Methodist Church
or American Cancer Society. Serving the family, North
