George Gillman Zwicker
February 12, 1942 – November 25, 2016

Stayton - George, 74 went home to be with the LORD on November 25, 2016.  He was born in Salem, the son of Melvin C. and Frances M. Zwicker. George lived on a farm in Joseph St. area for 18 years.  He graduated from Cascade High School with a football scholarship from the Coast Guard, however, he attended OSU and marched in the marching band, marrying his sweetheart Colleen Marie Hecht on December 19, 1960.  They then lived in Salem for 2 years before moving to a farm on Coon Hollow Rd. in Stayton for 49 years.

George and Colleen have been living in the town of Stayton since September 2014. George worked with diesel boat engines, in a couple dairies, drove a milk route for Curley’s Dairy, sheared sheep and began a construction career- eventually starting George Zwicker Construction. He was a beloved husband and father of 4 children and one foreign exchange student.

His children are Tracie (Lynn) Richman of Silverton, Shelly (Don) Zynda of Mill City, Matthew (Derrinda) Zwicker of Salem, Nathanael Zwicker (deceased, survived by Melissa) and Heloisa (Gunnar) Bedicks of Brazil; 12 grandchildren; and his sister, Sandra (Bob) Ruby of Sequim, WA.

He was member of Bethel Baptist Church in Aumsville and served in MANY capacities there:  Sunday School Teacher, Elder, Song Leader, Youth Leader....  He also taught a Bible Study in Prison Fellowship at the Marion County Jail for 16+ years. George enjoyed reading his Bible daily and reading C.S. Lewis and Patrick McManus.  He liked to hike, build, camp, listen to Gaither music and Rush Limbaugh, bake bread, watch movies, but most of all he loved people – those in his family, neighbors, people in and out of jail, his church family and he loved to talk about Jesus.  He loved his dog Stonewall Jackson (a golden retriever).

His “Celebration of Life” will be Saturday, December 10, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Aumsville.  He is loved, greatly missed, and those loved ones left behind should strive to follow Jesus in George’s steps. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
