Stayton - Joseph
Clarence Adams was born in Charleston, AR on December 12, 1928
to Nick & Annie Adams. Although baptized Joseph, he grew up being called Clarence
and was known in later years as CJ.
When he was less than a year old, the family moved to
Oklahoma where Annie’s family lived.
Clarence learned to work hard at an early age, helping
his dad and brothers repair windmills, butcher hogs, farm and
do carpentry work.
from Holy Family School in Canute, OK, Clarence farmed with
his dad before joining the Air Force in 1951.
He met and married Gloria Tunnell in 1953 while
stationed in Little Rock, Arkansas.
After his discharge in 1954, they moved to Oregon for
several years before going back to Arkansas where he bought a
farm. Moving to
Oregon again in 1966, CJ went to work for his brother Mike
until he retired in 1994.
Although he never had any children of his own, Clarence
enjoyed his 55 nieces and nephews.
He and Gloria were also foster parents to Glenda, and
over the years sponsored AFS students: Blanca, Cecilia and
CJ was active in the
Stayton Kiwanis and a member of the Immaculate Conception
enjoyed gardening, traveling, trips to the casinos, weekly
visits to the auction and watching Fox news.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, his
parents Nick & Annie, siblings Paul (Mildred), Maurice,
Albert, William (Geraldine), Marie (Pete Duerr), Michael,
Eugene, Raymond and Rita (Donald Garrett).
He is survived by his brother Leo (Juanita), sister
Teresa (Orville Word), sister-in-laws Julia, Adella, and Betty
Adams, LaVeta Neefe and Helen Blankenship; numerous nieces,
nephews, and their children; along with his dear friend and
companion Rosemary Heuberger and her family.
Rosary & Viewing
Thursday, July 6th at 7:00pm and Funeral Mass, Friday, July
7th at 11:00 am, both at Immaculate Conception Church,
will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Stayton. Contributions
can be made to the Immaculate Conception Church. Serving the
