Joseph Clarence "CJ" Adams
December 12, 1928 - July 2, 2017

Stayton - Joseph Clarence Adams was born in Charleston, AR on December 12, 1928 to Nick & Annie Adams.  Although baptized Joseph, he grew up being called Clarence and was known in later years as CJ.  When he was less than a year old, the family moved to Oklahoma where Annie’s family lived.  Clarence learned to work hard at an early age, helping his dad and brothers repair windmills, butcher hogs, farm and do carpentry work.

After graduating from Holy Family School in Canute, OK, Clarence farmed with his dad before joining the Air Force in 1951.  He met and married Gloria Tunnell in 1953 while stationed in Little Rock, Arkansas.  After his discharge in 1954, they moved to Oregon for several years before going back to Arkansas where he bought a farm.  Moving to Oregon again in 1966, CJ went to work for his brother Mike until he retired in 1994.  Although he never had any children of his own, Clarence enjoyed his 55 nieces and nephews.  He and Gloria were also foster parents to Glenda, and over the years sponsored AFS students: Blanca, Cecilia and Igor.

CJ was active in the Stayton Kiwanis and a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish.  He enjoyed gardening, traveling, trips to the casinos, weekly visits to the auction and watching Fox news.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, his parents Nick & Annie, siblings Paul (Mildred), Maurice, Albert, William (Geraldine), Marie (Pete Duerr), Michael, Eugene, Raymond and Rita (Donald Garrett).  He is survived by his brother Leo (Juanita), sister Teresa (Orville Word), sister-in-laws Julia, Adella, and Betty Adams, LaVeta Neefe and Helen Blankenship; numerous nieces, nephews, and their children; along with his dear friend and companion Rosemary Heuberger and her family.

Rosary & Viewing Thursday, July 6th at 7:00pm and Funeral Mass, Friday, July 7th at 11:00 am, both at Immaculate Conception Church, Stayton.  Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Stayton.
