Sublimity – It was
a snowy night on March 5th that our heavenly Father called
Ellen home. Her heart felt hugs and beautiful nature will be
missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Ellen was born to
Alfred and Hazel Poole in Stayton, joining her older brother,
Orville, and two older sisters, Irene and Florence, who
preceded her in death, and a younger sister that arrived a
year later, Agnes Grover, who survives her. At the age of 5,
Ellen’s mother, Hazel passed away from Tuberculosis and her
grandmother Poole came to live with them. She brought joy and
laughter to the family with her cute sayings and quick wit.
from Stayton High School, Ellen met and fell in love with
Leonard Schumacher, through a blind date with her friend
Dorothy Lulay and Bob Schumacher. Ellen and Leonard were
married January 7, 1947. They eventually moved to a farm near
the Santiam river in west Stayton and started raising their 5
children: Debbie Collette, Don Schumacher, Doug (Jackie)
Schumacher, Brad Schumacher(deceased) and Danell (Matt) Rauch.
After the untimely
death of Leonard on October 2, 1978, Ellen got remarried to
her high school friend, Elmer Fehlen on October 1, 1988 and
joined the family with Doug Fehlen and Janelle Fehlen
(Carrie). After many adventures, the most memorable being a
motor home trip to Alaska, Elmer passed away from cancer on
March 9, 2004. Ellen was a gifted artist. She excelled in oil
painting, sewing, cross stitch, pen and ink sketching,
calligraphy, knitting and crocheting, and creating porcelain
dolls. She made each of her children and grandchildren a piece
of art work to remember her by. Her love was endless.
