Vaughn Roberts Hunt,
aged 87, passed away peacefully in his sleep October 11.
He was born July 20, 1930, in Salem, Oregon, to parents
Rollin Raymond and Beatrice (Roberts) Hunt and spent his youth
in Salem, Little North Fork, and then Stayton.
Vaughn married Betty
Eugenia Nydegger in Fox Valley on June 30, 1951.
A longtime member of
the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vaughn was drafted into the
military during the Korean War, during which he served as a
Staff Sergeant in the US Army.
Betty and Vaughn
eventually settled in a home near Stayton after his military
service. Vaughn went to work for a garbage company in Stayton.
Then, he worked for Simpson’s plywood mill in Lyons before
obtaining a position at North Santiam Plywood in Mill City,
where he worked until he retired in 1992.
Camping, sports, and
watching Westerns were his most loved pastimes. Becoming
snowbirds after retirement, Vaughn and Betty spent many
winters at their place in Yuma, Arizona.
Vaughn was like the
sunshine he loved so well. As he basked in the warmth of the
Arizona sun, so too did all who knew him bask in his warmth.
He loved all of his family and friends dearly and was loved
greatly in turn by all of them.
He is survived by
his wife, two sons, three grandchildren, and four
great-grandchildren. His three brothers and sister preceded
him in death.
Viewing will be from
